The GEICO HUE Design System created a shared set of standards for typography, color, spacing, and reusable UI components. It served as a single source of truth for both designers and developers, helping ensure consistency across all products.
Our goal was to increase awareness of the system, encourage teams to use it, and improve consistency across the organization.
I worked closely with UX and Product teams across multiple GEICO business units, providing guidance, best practices, and governance to ensure teams followed system standards. I also contributed to designing and improving new components and interaction patterns to support evolving product needs.
To support adoption and maintain quality, we introduced a usability scoring system. This system evaluated how well teams used approved components and followed design standards.
Teams earned higher scores when they implemented components correctly, while incorrect usage or deviations lowered their scores—helping create accountability and track compliance.
Design Tokens
I designed and implemented the design token library, establishing a centralized, scalable repository for all visual and interaction properties across the system. This token framework ensured long-term sustainability, enabled consistency at scale, and streamlined system-wide updates for both designers and developers—reducing redundancy and improving cross-platform efficiency.
Key Features
-
Intuitive Naming & Structure: Developed a clear, scalable naming and organizational strategy that made token adoption seamless for both design and engineering teams.
-
Unified Color System: Created a consolidated light and dark mode color palette with enhanced contrast ratios to meet accessibility standards and improve usability.
-
Spacing & Sizing Tokens: Defined standardized sizing, spacing, and padding tokens to maintain consistent layout behavior across components, breakpoints, and screen sizes.
-
Experience-Based Theming: Designed experience-specific themes that allowed HUE components to transition fluidly between customer-facing and insurance agent workflows without duplicating components.
Easy Photo Estimate
Project Overview
GEICO’s Easy Photo Estimate helps customers get a repair estimate for vehicle damage without needing an appointment or waiting in line. Customers can access their claim through the GEICO mobile app or geico.com, take photos of the vehicle damage, upload them, and receive an estimate and payment through the digital claims process.
I supported the Easy Photo Estimate experience by creating user flows, vehicle damage illustrations, and mobile app overlays that helped guide customers through the process of taking clear, useful photos of their damaged vehicle.
The Challenge
Filing an auto claim can be stressful, especially when customers are unsure what photos to take, how close to stand, or which angles are needed. GEICO’s process required users to submit photos from multiple angles, including full-vehicle and close-up damage shots. The experience needed to feel simple, guided, and easy to complete on a mobile device.
The key UX challenge was:
How do we help customers confidently capture the right photos the first time, so adjusters can review the damage and complete the estimate faster?
The Outcome
The user flows, illustrations, and overlays helped support a more guided digital claims experience. By giving users clear visual direction, the Easy Photo Estimate flow made it easier for customers to capture vehicle damage photos and submit them through the app or website.
This supported GEICO’s broader goal of allowing customers to get an estimate and receive payment without needing to schedule an appointment or visit a physical inspection location.
